The Infinite cannot express itself to us through normal channels. If it ever appears it does so at those odd moments when our training has shut down. Those rare times when what we have learned is sidetracked. When all those maxims we have taught ourselves about how to navigate life no longer have any impact.
All of our training has been to prepare us against surprise. Get on your road, stay between the gutters, tough it out. ‘Life is tough’. ‘Life is no picnic’. After a few decades, we get it. Life is a struggle that we just have to endure.
But fragments get through. Little snippets with majestic qualities get our attention every so often. We feel little tugs in directions we don’t understand. Little haunting taps on the shoulder that we don’t recognize but we know aren’t imaginary.
Education? Most folks have said ‘No’ to anything higher than themselves so many times that the possibility of saying ‘Yes’ to an elevated life will remain just a possibility – forever.
The ‘education for surprise’ is nothing more than the suspension of all we think we ‘know’ and allowing the idea of something higher to finally be realized . . . of its own accord.
