The Mask of . . .

You want freedom? I’ll bring you freedom! Let’s see, second row from the bottom and ninth in. ‘Freedom’. You put it on and your arms become wings. The memory of all those tethers holding you down are gone. Your imagination tries to recall anything you have ever seen, anywhere, that resembles flight, floating or weightlessness.

And this time calls for ruthlessness also? That’s in ‘F-11’. No problem, I’ll just need another minute or two for it to become real.

Our true feelings silenced under the guise of some desire, and all the ancestors of those guises.

For the most part, masks perpetuate lies. Their dissimulation becomes so crafty that the mask can disappear and be just as potent, if not more so. Who are you living for today?

And underneath masks are your imperfections. But who has labeled those as negative? It had to be you. You find yourself in a unique scenario and one of your qualities doesn’t come up to some self-appointed threshold. Grab a mask!

But in another scenario that same ‘gift’ may be exactly what is needed. A mask there is unnecessary so it is not even thought of.

If disparity is coupled with confidence that difference is never an imperfection, it is a ‘quality’. That happens when all the tethers which once held you down have been eliminated. You begin to see the good in everything and how it can fit in, in numerous circumstances.

Careful, though, don’t make the mistake of thinking those tethers have been cut – when in fact it’s just slack in the lines.
